There Is Hope

Coming here helps me escape. Escape from life and everything else going on in Hong Kong. It really is a mess out there, and personally, I think the people who are really to be blamed for this all is the government; the people with power.
I’ve lived here all my life and not once did I imagine the summer of 2019 to turn out like this. I mean who could’ve predicted it? Yet, everything that is happening right now is a build-up of the many smaller issues we let go unnoticed.
But somehow, despite the disorder, I’m thankful; thankful that Hong Kong has woken up from its slumber. People are taking action and they are becoming more and more aware; there is a sense of patriotism growing among Hong Kongers. First, there was the largest march of nearly two million Hong Kongers on the 16th of June and we only recently had the record-breaking 2.94 million people coming out to cast not just their vote but their voices. And when you really think about it, the uncountable number of times Hong Kongers have stood united, it gives you hope that the future of our home isn’t as dim as some people may think it is. Many are scared, and they have every right to be. But running away from your home while you still have the power to save it… That is not the answer.
